Living in & buying/selling in Methuen, MA
On the New Hampshire line between Lawrence, Haverhill and Dracut — with I-93 and I-495 both running through it.
Methuen, briefly
Methuen sits on the New Hampshire border, wrapped around the north side of Lawrence, with Haverhill to the east and Dracut to the west. I-93 begins its Massachusetts run here and I-495 crosses the eastern side of the city, so for a lot of my clients it is the practical middle of the Merrimack Valley: quick to the highways, quick to Salem, NH, and a short drive to the Lawrence train station.
It has a mayor–council city government, though you will still hear plenty of people call it “the town.” My office is a few minutes away in Lawrence, and Methuen is one of the places I work most.

Live from public sources and refreshed every week. When a town has no separate series, the panel shows county figures and says so.

What the housing stock looks like
Methuen’s housing is varied, which is a big part of its appeal. Closer to the Lawrence line and around the older center you will find two- and three-family homes and older single-families on smaller lots. Further out, mid-century capes, ranches and split-levels give way to colonials, newer subdivisions and condominium communities.
That range lets a buyer trade lot size against commute, and it gives investors owner-occupied multi-family options without leaving a suburban city. On older homes, we plan the inspection around heating systems, electrical, roofs and — for any home built before 1978 — lead paint.

Schools in Methuen
Methuen’s public schools are run by the Methuen Public School District. For school assignments, enrollment and programs, go straight to the district — it is the only source I point clients to.
I don't rank or rate schools; the district and the state are the sources to trust. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education publishes school and district profiles for every public district in the state.

Not inside Methuen. Most people drive to Lawrence station on the MBTA Haverhill Line, or to Bradford or Haverhill, for service to North Station. Check the MBTA schedule for current times and parking.

A wide mix: two- and three-family homes and older single-families near the Lawrence line and the older center, and capes, ranches, split-levels, colonials and condominiums further out.
Can my first home in Methuen be a two- or three-family?
Yes. If you live in one unit, owner-occupied financing such as FHA can be used on two- to four-unit homes, and part of the rent can help you qualify. My first multi-family guide walks through the numbers.
How is the Methuen housing market right now?
The Market Pulse on this page refreshes every week from public sources: typical value, sale prices, days on market and mortgage rates. Those are area trends; for a specific street, I pull the recent comparable sales.
What is my home in Methuen worth?

Yes. I'm a bilingual REALTOR®, and the whole process — every document explained, the negotiation and the signings — can be in Spanish.
